So after being sick, then dead, then just uncomfortable, The Admiral comes back with now one but TWO reviews! So tie up to something and lets buckle in.
This is it: Yep, this IS it…Michael is dead, and now we have to watch two hours of his rehearsals. Now lets be very straight and up front: I don’t like MJ. It’s not that I don’t like him exactly; it’s just that I don’t like his music…. well, I don’t like all his music. Outside a couple, I could live without most of it so to say that I was not looking forward to this movie was an understatement. Funny thing happened about half way through though. I found myself tapping a toe, humming along here and there, and being generally interested. Though I didn’t like all the music, I found myself spellbound by the work, the sheer effort going into a simple concert. And then I realized that it wasn’t just a concert. Each move, each note, each scene was building to a crescendo. This is it was more than a movie. This wasn’t it, this was “him”…. This was MJ. It showed MJ as an artist, an entertainer, and as a person with thoughts and concerns. I hate to tell you kiddies, but this was actually pretty good. Now don’t get me wrong; I still think it’s a cash grab and plays a little like a greatest hits album. Still, can help but find myself almost feeling good about seeing the thing. I’m going to go out on a limb here, and give it 3 stars…. not telling out of what so you can draw your own conclusions. I will say that if you have a chance to see it, in theatre or otherwise, I’d do it…. but only once.
The Men who stare at Goats: Here’s the thing; stop watching the commercials. This movie is a great example why commercials ruin movies. After watching the commercials, and the trailers and everything I could on the subject, I was ready for the film. I got my popcorn and drink and settled into my 9th row seat (cause in a flat theatre, the 9th row is the best viewing distance) and prepared for the laugh fest to come. Ok…here we go…. the trailers are done…the movie is starting…wtf is this? WTF…. Where is my slapstick? Where is my stupid jokes and bad writing? OH HELL NO! You are NOT making me watch this well crafted, expertly written, dry yet intellectually funny movie! I want a laugh track! The Truth is this movie is NOTHING like the commercials. They don’t do it justice. The Men Who Stare at Goats is clever, holding its jokes in deadpan “drama”, as the story unfolds. I had every intention of telling you the story here, but I want to leave it to you to see. Its something that I don’t think translates to paper as well as it goes from paper to screen. Now yes there are Jedi jokes, and yes there are a lot of parts that leave you scratching you heads. I think that they add to the overall humour of the movie. The fact that it’s played as such a serious subject, in a serious dramatic way makes you almost believe. This one gets 4 out of 5 kiddies. No doubts on this one. Just remember to go in with an open mind….or at least on LSD….you’ll get it when you see the movie.
Well, there is your double-shot. Tune in next time for some fun in the sun!

Wow! Really? I loved The Men Who Stare at Goats! But then again, I did go in with an Open Mind... :) If memory serves me correctly, I think I said something like that as well! :)
Keep it up, RJ :)
